Gabbar Singh is a 2012 Indian Telugu action drama film film produced by Bandla Ganesh under the Parameswara Art Productions and directed by Harish Shankar. The lead actors include Pawan Kalyan and Shruti Haasan in lead roles alongside Kota Srinivasa Rao, Abhimanyu Singh in supporting roles. The film is a remake of the 2010 Hindi film Dabangg starring Salman Khan.[5] The film is about a police cop who renamed himself as “Gabbar Singh” after the famous villain in Sholay revolting against a dreaded goon. In the process, he loses his mother and has a hatred towards his step-father and step-brother. Rest of the plot revolves around Gabbar and his clash with Siddhappa.
Devi Sri Prasad composed the film’s music and Jayanan Vincent was the film’s cinematographer. The film was made with the budget of ₹30 crore(US$4.5 million) and was formally launched on 18 August 2011 at Hyderabad. The filming was primarily held at Pollachi.
The film was released on 11 May 2012 and became successful, grossing over ₹150 crore (US$22 million) worldwide and becoming one of highest grossing Telugu films at the time.[3][4]
Soundtrack
The soundtrack of the film was composed by Devi Sri Prasad. On 15 April 2012, Pawan Kalyan along with Bandla Ganesh, Harish Shankar and few others visited Tirumala, where they released the first song from the film and soon after that they went to Visakhapatnam and visited Simhachalam Temple where they released the second song from the film.[40] The audio was released on 15 April 2012 through Aditya Music label and audio launch event took place at Shilpakala Vedika in Hyderabad on the same day.[41] Popular Telugu actor Kota Srinivasa Rao lent his vocals for a song in the film.[42] Lyrics for the two songs were penned by Sahithi and remaining songs were written by Ramajogayya Sastry, Chandrabose, Devi Sri Prasad and Bhaskarabhatla.[43] Devi Sri Prasad had written the lyrics for the song “Pilla”.[44]
There were rumours that the song called “O Bava” were circulating round the internet but Devi denied that he did not composed such song for the film and “someone have might have uploaded it ‘by mistake’ as our song.”[45]
