Anirudh Ravichander Teams Up with Universal Music for a Global Independent Music Push
In a massive leap for South Indian independent music, rockstar composer Anirudh Ravichander has announced an exclusive global partnership with Universal Music India. This powerhouse collaboration will be driven through Anirudh’s newly launched independent music label, Albuquerque Records, with a vision to take regional pop and hip-hop to a worldwide audience.
Under this exciting agreement, Universal Music India will serve as the exclusive partner to release Anirudh’s upcoming non-film tracks, as well as fresh music from new artists signed to his label. Fans will not have to wait long, as the highly anticipated first release under Albuquerque Records, featuring Anirudh himself, is expected to drop in early April.
Since his internet-breaking debut in 2012 with “Why This Kolaveri Di,” Anirudh has built a phenomenal musical empire. Boasting over 13 billion audio streams across more than 770 tracks, he currently reigns as one of the most streamed South Indian artists on Spotify. With unforgettable chartbusters like “Hukum,” “Vaathi Coming,” and “Arabic Kuthu,” this new venture marks his strategic expansion beyond film soundtracks into the thriving independent music space.
Sharing his excitement, Anirudh revealed that Albuquerque Records was created as an artist-first platform dedicated to nurturing independent talent and amplifying their voices globally. He emphasized that partnering with Universal Music India was a natural choice, given their formidable leadership and footprint in the pop and hip-hop genres.
Devraj Sanyal, Chairman and CEO of Universal Music India, praised Anirudh as a bold and original force shaping the future of Indian music. As Universal Music India continues to pioneer the country’s non-film music ecosystem, this collaboration promises to create a dynamic new creative hub for emerging artists and elevate Indian independent music on the global stage.
